Dermal Micro Needling - Stamping and Rolling

Dermal Rolling

Dermal  Rolling refers to a procedure involving a manual handheld roller device with  needles of varying length and numbers, to roll over and pierce the skin. The benefits are collagen stimulation, which will soften fine lines and wrinkles, reduction in pore size and lightening of pigmentation. It also creates pathways to increase penetration of product, which speeds up these processes.

In clinic procedures

A series of six treatments at one monthly intervals. A topical anaesthetic is applied for pain management and then the roller is used to pierce the skin with hundreds of small holes. The target area is treated one small area at a time, until fully covered. A solution of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) and strong peptides is applied immediately, which hydrates and plumps the skin. This effect lasts for a few days only after the first few sessions, but as new collagen growth is stimulated, after about three months the results start lasting longer. By six months, your skin has a new glow, pore size is reduced, pigmentation is broken down and starts fading, fine lines and wrinkles are softening, elasticity is being restored and a general appearance of “rejuvenation” is achieved. Specific areas can be targeted with more intense needling, e.g., perioral (mouth), periorbital (eyes) or acne scarring.

After treatment and home care

After treatment

The inflammatory reaction of the skin is generally very short and fades significantly within hours from redness to pinkish, which lasts from 12 to 48 hours on average. In order to reduce visible redness and for the well-being of your skin, we recommend the use of a post-procedure kit as part of the treatment package. Make-up can be applied the following day. We recommend mineral make-up for the health of your skin.

Home care

To enhance in-clinic treatments, we recommend the use of a homecare roller at least three times a week, combined with high concentrations of active skin care products. The home roller needles are significantly shorter and can therefore be used without anaesthetic. Although they do not penetrate deeply enough to stimulate collagen, (once a month is adequate to achieve this) they increase the penetration of product, from 20 to around 80 per cent. This significantly adds value to the more high end products you may already have, or purchase as part of the home regime.

Who will benefit?

Anyone with:

  • Sun damaged skin requiring general skin rejuvenation
  • Leathery skin with enlarged pores
  • Acne scarring
  • Deep lines in upper lip or eye area, where filler products won’t last very long
  • Pigmentation that cannot be treated with IPL or laser. (OK for all skin types)
  • Or anyone wanting general improvement of their skin, but not able to afford the necessary downtime, or expense, of laser treatments.

How does it work?

The trauma caused by injury to the skin stimulates increased fibroblast activity, which increases collagen and elastin production. The needling action transmits growth factor signals to stimulate the production of new healthy skin cells. Applying products with a high concentration of growth factors, further enhances, and speeds up this process.

In the case of acne scarring, old fibrotic scar tissue is deep within the skin, so longer needles are necessary. Eventually, the combination of new collagen and elastin fibres that are produced, scars can be significantly softened.

What areas can be treated?

Rolling can be used on necks and chests, areas that are often difficult to treat with other modalities. It can also be used to improve stretch marks.

Dermastamp

At Clinique Elan we are using the latest technology in skin needling with the Dermastamp.

Clinically proven to induce collagen and reduce scarring, this German engineered stamping device increases skin stimulation and takes standard skin needling to a new level. The Dermastamp uses vertical penetration to create channels into the skin, for ultimate infusion of hyaluronic acid and other collagen stimulating ingredients.

Dermastamp uses very fine needles to promote tissue stimulation and skin rejuvenation. This is unlike any heat based technology, as there is no skin burning or skin coagulation.

What is a Dermastamp Treatment?

The Dermastamp is a vibrational, stamping device, unlike a manual handheld roller.

How is the procedure performed and does it hurt?

The skin is cleaned and sterilized prior to treatment. The skin will be numbed to ensure maximum comfort. The tip glides over the skin, creating stimulating channels. An even flushing is the best indication of a perfect medical treatment. The treatment usually takes around 1.5 hours.

Can it be performed on any skin colour?

Since we are not using heat, yes the Dermastamp can be used on any skin colour and skin type.

How long before I will see results?

You will begin to see improvement almost immediately, once your skin has fully recovered. However, collagen will grow from around the 6 week mark. Your skin will continue to improve over 6-12 months.

How often can I have the Dermastamp?

For Collagen + Skin Rejuvenation, we recommend a minimum of 3 treatments, 6 weeks apart.
For scars + acne scar reduction, 6+ treatments, 6-8 weeks apart.

Should you expect downtime from this treatment

The inflammatory reaction of the skin is generally very short and fades significantly within hours from redness to pinkish, which lasts from 12 to 48 hours on average. In order to reduce visible redness and for the well-being of your skin, we recommend the use of a post-procedure kit as part of the treatment package. Make-up can be applied the following day. We recommend mineral make-up for the health of your skin.

Can you increase results at home?

We recommend the home care roller to help stimulate the skin and help penetrate ingredients deeper into it. Use every second day or even just up to once a week to see results.

Do I have to do my whole face?

Not necessarily, we can do selected areas such as peri-oral or crows feet or frown.
